“War is the realm of uncertainty; three quarters of the factors on which action in war is based are wrapped in a fog of greater or lesser uncertainty.”
- Clausewitz
Uncertainty.
Why are we at war? Why am I here? Who am I? How will the war change me? Is it worth it?
These aren’t the question that comes to mind when you hear the expression ‘fog of war’ but that’s how I chose to interpret the phrase. Uncertainty regarding the war. What are we fighting for? What are we dying for? Play and find out.
The Fog of War is a roleplaying game about war. In particular it’s about American wars. It’s about the soldiers who fight them and what they need to do and who they need to be in order to be a good soldier, to function as a soldier. The game begins before the soldiers enlist and we follow them through training, through their first mission and through their part in the war. When the story ends we know all the choices they made, we know the consequences of their choices and what the war did to them. There’s no more uncertainty. We have dispersed the fog of war, laid it bear for all to see. Was it worth it?
